Maserati recalls selected GranTurismo sports cars over defective brake lights

Luxury car manufacturer, Maserati, has recalled a number of their GranTurismo sports cars due to a brake light fault. In total 1,768 sports cars are being recalled as the leading Italian car maker has revealed that the issue is affecting GranTurismo convertible and coupé models manufactured between June 2008 and March 2010.

Maserati say they are in the process of contacting every owner of an affected GranTurismo sports car model to make them aware of the taillight issue, and to inform them of how the problem can be remedied. The Italian car maker is informing owners of their recalled models to take their car to the nearest Maserati repair centre where the faulty brake light will be repaired free of charge.

The defective brake light is reportedly due to a fault during the assembly of the Gran Turismo. Drivers of affected models are urged to get in touch with Maserati if they’ve yet to be contacted by the manufacturer, as a sudden failure of brake lights could prove highly dangerous and increase the car’s risk of being involved in an accident.

Last year Maserati were forced to recall certain 2009 models after a problem was detected with the car suspension.

The Maserati GranTurismo is priced between $123,000 – $142,000 with the V8 4.7 litre model boasting a top speed of 183mph producing 434bhp and the capability to accelerate from 0-62mph in just 4.8 seconds.

Specialist local car rental provider launches website in UK

A car hire provider specialising in listings of local and independent car rental operators, has launched in the UK for the very first time. RentMama.com has been introduced in the North East of England as part of a pilot scheme where it has already recruited 30 local vehicle hire companies offering more than 2000 vehicles for hire in total.

RentMamma.com was first introduced in Latvia in 2010 where the model proved very successful with car hire consumers. The website succeeded in attracting 70% of Latvia’s car hire providers to its website, helping to offer customers a wide range of car hire operators all in one place.

While global brands offering consumers the opportunity to compare car hire prices across a wide range of providers are proving very popular with car hire consumers, RentMamma.com believes there is a gap in the market for a comparison site which focuses on local and independent car hire operators in specific areas.

RentMamma.com insist that local providers are often able to offer flexibility in terms of an increased choice of pick up and drop off locations, also more affordable deals and cheaper hire options for younger drivers. As well as offering great benefits to the customer, RentMamma.com believes their website will also provide a boost to local businesses.

The specialist local and independent car hire broker believes it has the capability to revolutionise the UK’s car hire market with its easy to use website offering the pick of the best local car hire deals.

Aston Martin is out and the Range Rover is in as filming begins for James Bond movie

If the recent photographs taken from the filming of the new James Bond movie, Skyfall, are anything to go by, it seems that even 007 isn’t recession proof as actor Daniel Craig was seen in a Range Rover jeep instead of the Aston Martin sports car usually associated with the English spy character.

Photos published in the press this week show a serious looking Craig, filming scenes for the upcoming movie Skyfall in London. The rugged actor is seen being chauffeured in a black Range Rover jeep, with a stuntman on the roof surrounded by metal apparatus, no doubt to facilitate some type of dramatic getaway.

It’s understood that the new Bond film had singled out a number of exotic filming locations including China and Bali for the shoot, however the movie producers were forced to cut back on the film budget which meant that the shooting locations had to be reined in. It’s now believed that the only foreign location used in filming will be Turkey, while London, Bognor Regis, Wales and Pinewood Studios will be used in the most part for Skyfall filming.

We’ll have to wait until November when the 23rd Bond movie is released to find out why James Bond is being chauffeured in the back seat of a Range Rover, although we’re pretty certain 007 will get behind the wheel of an Aston Martin or similarly glamorous sports car at some point in the movie – it wouldn’t be a Bond movie otherwise!

Lamborghini sports car for lotto winner who took 2 weeks to claim prize

A Euromillions winner from Wales says he plans to splash his winnings on his dream car, a Lamborghini Spyder. However 29-year-old Gavin Davies from Neath didn’t realise he’d scooped the top prize on the December 27th draw until two weeks later when he finally remembered to check his lottery ticket.

Gavin only discovered he’d won the Euromillions jackpot from December 27th on January 13th, luckily, before the claim deadline. The 29-year-old was revealed as the mystery winner of the jackpot at the Morgan Hotel in Swansea.

The martial arts expert has his grandparents to thank for their part in helping him claim his lotto win as they urged Gavin to check his lottery tickets after they saw an appeal by Camelot for the winner of the December 27th draw to come forward as the prize had not been claimed.

The cage fighter said he always knew he’d win the lottery one day, and he also knows exactly what he wants to spend his winnings on. As well as a Lamborghini sports car for himself, Gavin Davies will also treat his partner to a new motor and also take his family on holiday. However the Welshman is keen to invest in his and his family’s future after he became a father to a baby boy just four weeks ago and so he’s also planning to buy a property with his £1 million winnings.

Lindsay Lohan sued for hitting nanny with a Maserati sports car

While Lindsay Lohan may have been hoping for a trouble-free start to 2012, the actress has found herself in the middle of yet another legal drama after a nanny filed court papers this week to sue the 25-year-old after she alleged she was hit by the blonde actress and model who was driving a Maserati sports car.

Nubia Del Carmen Preza who was working as a nanny in September 2010, claims she was crossing an intersection in West Hollywood while pushing a pram when the actress struck her in her hired Maserati, causing the buggy to fly into the air.

While no injuries were reported to the child in the pram, Preza is claiming for “serious personal injuries, pain, suffering and anguish” in addition, the nanny is also suing Lindsay Lohan for past and future medical costs and loss of wages and future earnings due to her inability to carry out her usual job due to the accident.

The Black and White Car Rental company who own the Maserati Granturism which was allegedly involved in the collision, confirmed that Lindsay Lohan had hired the luxury sports car at the time the accident is reported to have taken place.

The nanny is suing both Lindsay Lohan and the sports car hire company for an undisclosed amount following legal papers filed this week, despite the fact the incident allegedly occurred 17 months ago.

As yet, there’s been no word from Lindsay Lohan or her legal team with regard to the recent lawsuit.

Bollywood’s Amitabh Bachchan turns chauffeur for Oprah Winfrey visit

Bollywood mega star, Amitabh Bachchan, was more than happy to dispense with the services of his driver in order to personally chauffeur the US chat show host, Oprah Winfrey, during her very first visit to India. Amitabh was photographed behind the wheel of a white Rolls Royce, with the famous host in the back seat accompanied by Aishwarya Rai as he drove the group to a party held in the 57-year-old’s honour.

Oprah Winfrey is visiting India for the very first time and is scheduled to be attending the Jaipur Literature Festival and will also be undertaking some filming for her new show, Next Chaper, during her time in India.

The Bachchan clan are making a big effort to make Oprah Winfrey feel at home during her first visit to India. As well as personally chauffeuring the veteran TV host to a party in Mumbai on Monday night, Amitabh also accompanied Oprah as she visited the Bollywood star’s son and daughter-in-law, Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and their two-month-old baby, known only as Beti-B. Oprah Winfrey was thought to have spent about an hour at the couple’s home meeting the new addition to the family.

The top Indian actor and TV presenter, Amitabh Bachchan, took to his Twitter page to share the news with his fans about his evening with Oprah Winfrey as he wrote, “The gracious Oprah Winfrey visits our home, to meet us and bless the baby… warm hearted, endearing… drive her to party in her honour. Video shows moment £100k Lamborghini crashed in high speed street race

The moment a £100k Lamborghini supercar smashes into a motorway barrier, narrowly avoiding hitting other road users, has been captured on video by another driver who witnessed the high speed, and highly dangerous, street race first hand.

The video footage shows four drivers in powerful sports cars, including a number of Lamborghinis, swerving in and out of the traffic on a public highway in Northern Taiwan. However the driver of a lime green Lamborghini supercar gets into trouble when the car encounters a vehicle travelling at a much slower place. As the Lambo breaks heavily to avoid hitting the slow moving vehicle, the car spins 180 degrees, crashing into the central reservation as the driver loses control.

Miraculously, the other speeding sports cars and the other drivers on the road in Taiwan, manage to avoid the Lamborghini as it collided into the motorway barrier. While it’s believed no one was injured as a result of the street race crash, the state of the £100,000 Lamborghini was another matter entirely and it’s reported it’s likely the vehicle would have been written off as a result of the crash.

The driver filming the entire incident while travelling in the middle lane of the motorway narrowly misses hitting the crashed Lamborghini, which makes for a heart-stopping moment in the middle of the YouTube video.

While no one was injured as a result of the accident, the video certainly highlights the dangers of this type of immature street racing which often involves the wealthy owners of luxury sports cars, as appears to be the case in this footage.
